Joining the Band

E-mail Print

The band welcomes adult and student musicians of all skill levels. To join, show up with your instrument ready to play at one of our regular rehearsals.  These rehearsals take place Thursday evenings throughout the school year (check this website for holidays and other cancelations).  A phone call to Bob Dalrymple at 259-2263 or an e-mail telling us of your plans to attend would be appreciated.

The only requirement is that you try your best and come prepared.  The band's standards are high and music is selected, rehearsed and performed with that in mind.  For those whose skills are limited or are simply rusty from disuse, hang on for the ride as we won't be slowing down for you.  We believe the best incentive to learn comes from being challenged to keep up with those around you.  And don't worry, we never put any individual on the spot just because they may have difficulty with the music. We want to help you grow and improve as a musician.

We welcome you, but experience has taught us that many who show up wanting to join never return, therefore we never give out music to new members on their first day.  We understand that some people may not find our band to their liking for any number of reasons, but we hope never because we made them feel unwelcome.

As a new member, you may be asked to sit out an upcoming concert if that concert is scheduled close to your date of joining. This is not a judgment on your playing skill. We feel that regardless of your skill, attendance to several rehearsals are required to ensure all members in the band perform well together and have absorbed all the performance instructions and directive that have been given over many rehearsals.

Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 7:15 to 9:30pm at the Vista Ridge High School band hall. Our season typically runs mid-September to June.

Vista Ridge High School is at 200 S Vista Ridge Pkwy Cedar Park, TX 78613.

Member dues per year are as follows:

  • $30 for adults
  • $15 for students

Family discount: Full dues for first member, half dues for each additional family member. Members joining after January 1st will pay half dues.

Members should make every effort to arrive at rehearsal in time to assemble their instruments, warm up and tune up in time to begin playing at 7:15 sharp.  Members are expected to attend as many rehearsals as possible. When a player knows they will not be able to attend a rehearsal, they should notify their section leader in advance.
